Diagrams with AI
Updated on August 5, 2026
With AI Mode on, you can ask Imagine to generate a flowchart from a topic. The result lands on the canvas as editable objects, ready for you to adjust however you like.
Enabling AI Mode
AI Mode is a toggle controlled from the user menu in the top-right corner of the app. When it is active, the Import Mermaid button in the toolbar turns violet to show that AI generation is available.
Generating a diagram from a topic
- Make sure AI Mode is enabled.
- Open a presentation and click Import Mermaid in the toolbar.
- Inside the dialog, click Generate with AI.
- Type a topic or title in the field that appears (for example: "photosynthesis process" or "project lifecycle").
- Click Generate. The AI builds the diagram code and loads it automatically into the text area.
- Review the diagram and click Import to add it to the canvas.
What you can ask the AI
The AI generates flowcharts (type flowchart or graph). It works best with concrete, descriptive topics: processes, decision flows, stages of a cycle, or hierarchies. The more specific the topic, the more useful the result tends to be.
The AI output is a starting point. Review it and adjust on the canvas: you can move nodes, edit labels, and change connectors just like any other element.
Quota usage
Generating a diagram with AI uses tokens from your plan. Usage depends on your active plan. See plans and limits to learn more about what is available.
Frequently asked questions
Can I use AI generation without enabling AI Mode? No. The Generate with AI button only appears inside the Import Mermaid dialog when AI Mode is enabled.
What happens if the AI cannot generate the diagram? The app shows an error message in the dialog. You can rephrase the topic and try again, or type Mermaid code manually in the text area.
Is the generated diagram editable? Yes. Once imported, every node and connector is a canvas element and you can modify it freely.
How many tokens does one generation use? Usage varies with the length of the diagram. Check plans and limits for the details of your plan.
