Generate problems with AI
Updated on August 5, 2026
SimuLab can create a complete practice problem — statement, answer and grading — from a topic you describe. It can also generate an entire collection with multiple problems organized in folders.
Generate a single problem
In the navigation bar click Create problem and choose the With AI mode. Then specify:
- What topic? — describe the topic with enough detail. For example: integration by parts with trigonometric functions.
- Where should the content come from? — choose one or more sources:
- AI — creates the problem from its own knowledge.
- Your books — based on the books you have in Theca.
- The web — searches trusted pages and cites them.
- Difficulty — Easy, Medium or Hard.
- How is it answered? — leave Automatic to let the AI decide, or fix the format: a number, multiple choice, free text or step by step.
When you're ready, click Generate problem.
Generate a full collection
From the toolbar click Generate collection. The AI first designs the folder structure and then generates each problem. Specify the topic, the number of problems and the sources you want to use.
What happens while you wait
The app shows progress in real time. For a single problem, the phases are:
| Phase | What it means |
|---|---|
| Queued | Your request is waiting its turn. |
| Searching sources | The AI looks for information in the chosen sources. |
| Drafting problem | The AI writes the statement and answer. |
| Checking the simulation | If the topic allows it, an animation is prepared. |
| Checking against sources | Verifies that the content is faithful to the material. |
| Verifying answers | Checks that the answer is correct. |
| Preparing visuals | Finds images or adjusts the animation. |
| Ready | The problem is available. |
For a collection, Designing the collection structure appears first, followed by Generating problems as each one is created.
You can stay on the same page while the AI works or navigate away — generation continues in the background.
Review the generated problem
When it finishes, click Open problem. The AI can make mistakes, especially with numerical data or exercises that require very specific information. Review the statement and answer before using it to study. If you see a warning like We couldn't verify the numeric answer automatically, pay extra attention.
What to do if it fails
If generation fails, the app tells you. You can:
- Click Try again to retry with the same inputs.
- Change the topic or sources and generate again.
If you see You ran out of AI usage, you have reached your plan limit. Wait for it to renew or upgrade your plan.
AI quota
Generating problems and collections uses AI quota. The amount available depends on your plan. You can see how much you have used from your account settings.
Frequently asked questions
Can I choose multiple sources at once? Yes. When you choose several, SimuLab uses the best one available for your topic. You don't have to choose all of them.
Does the AI make up numeric data? Sometimes. That's why it's important to review the result. If the problem contains specific numbers, verify they are correct before practicing with it.
Are generated problems saved automatically? Yes. They appear in your My problems library and you can organize them into collections.
How long does generation take? It depends on the topic and the chosen sources. The app shows you the progress in real time.
