Import and export .smlb files

Updated on August 5, 2026

The .smlb format is SimuLab's own format for saving problem collections. With it you can back up your work, move a collection to another account, or share it with someone.

What a .smlb file contains

A .smlb file stores a complete collection: the folder structure and all the problems it contains, with their statements, answers and configuration. The file stays on your device and is not uploaded to any external server.

Export a collection

  1. In the left Collections panel, right-click the collection you want to export.
  2. Choose Export .smlb from the menu.
  3. Wait while the message Preparing export... appears.
  4. When it finishes, the .smlb file downloads automatically to your device.

Import a collection

  1. In the toolbar click Import.
  2. The Import collection panel opens.
  3. Drag and drop a .smlb file onto the marked area, or click it to browse for the file on your device.
  4. Click Import to confirm.
  5. Wait for the Importing collection... message. When it finishes, the collection appears in your library.

Only files with the .smlb extension are accepted. Other formats are not compatible with this panel.

What it is for

  • Backup — save a .smlb file of your most important collections in case you need to recover them.
  • Move between accounts — export from one account and import into another to take your work with you.
  • Share with someone — send the file and the other person can import it into their own account.

Frequently asked questions

Does the .smlb file include my attempts and submissions? No. The file stores the structure and content of the problems, not the answer history.

Can I import a collection more than once? Yes. Each import creates a new collection, independent of previous ones.

Does the file stay on my device or get uploaded to SimuLab? The file exists only on your device. SimuLab processes it during import but does not store it permanently.

Can I edit the problems after importing? Yes. Once imported, the collection is yours and you can edit any problem from the editor.

Next step

  • Collections — organize and manage the collections in your library.
  • Market — publish collections so others can clone them.
  • Generate with AI — create new collections from a topic without starting from a file.
