Activity heatmap
Updated on August 5, 2026
The Activity Heatmap (Last 12 Months) is a grid of days colored by how many reviews you did each day. At a glance you can see your streaks, rest days, and periods of highest intensity.
How to read the heatmap
Each cell represents one day. The color ranges from Less (few or no reviews) to More (many reviews). The heatmap does not use a fixed numeric scale: the darkest color corresponds to the day with the most activity in your visible history.
Look for patterns:
- Long stretches of consistent color — study streaks. A good sign.
- Scattered faded cells — days you skipped. If frequent, consider lowering your daily limit so it is easier to hit every day.
- Isolated spikes of high activity — one-off long sessions. These may indicate cramming before an exam rather than spreading the work out.
Timezone
The heatmap uses the timezone you set in Review Preferences to determine which day each session belongs to. If EON marks a day as inactive but you did study, check that the timezone is correct. A review done at midnight can be assigned to the previous or next day depending on that setting.
To change the timezone, go to Review Preferences in the app menu and adjust the Timezone field.
Update frequency and how to force a refresh
Metrics are generated automatically. If the heatmap does not reflect a recent session, use the Refresh metrics button in the stats panel. The app shows the Last updated time so you know whether the data is fresh.
The activity heatmap is the fastest way to tell whether your study habit is consistent or relies on marathon sessions. Daily consistency — even a few minutes — produces better retention than cramming everything into one day.
Frequently asked questions
Does the heatmap count any interaction or only complete review sessions? The heatmap records days when you performed at least one rated review (Forgot, Hard, Good, or Easy). Opening cards without rating them does not count.
Can I see the heatmap broken down by Deck Pack? The activity heatmap shows account-wide activity. The per-Deck-Pack breakdown is available in the progress section of the statistics panel.
Does the heatmap update in real time? No. It updates automatically at intervals. Use Refresh metrics if you need to see data from a recent session.
