Planning modes

The planning mode tells EON how to decide which cards to show you each day. You can change it at any time from Review Preferences, either for your whole account or for a specific Deck Pack.

Auto — switches to exam focus when exam is near

EON manages the pace on its own. When it detects an upcoming exam (based on your configured exam focus window), it automatically shifts to intensive prep mode. Once the exam passes, it returns to a steady catch-up rhythm.

Who it's for: students who want to stop worrying about scheduling and let the app make the decisions. This is the recommended mode if you use EON's calendar to mark exams.

When to change it: if you prefer full control over when to activate intensive prep, or if you don't use EON's calendar to record exams.

Steady — smooth uniform catch-up

EON spreads cards evenly day by day without considering calendar exams. The pace stays constant even as an exam approaches.

Who it's for: students with a stable review habit who don't need a pre-exam intensity ramp, or who prefer to keep the same cadence year-round.

When to change it: if a major exam is approaching and you want EON to ramp up, switch to Exam focus or Auto.

Exam focus — intensive ramp toward next exam

EON concentrates reviews so you arrive at the exam with as many cards fresh in memory as possible. The pace intensifies as the date gets closer.

Who it's for: students with an imminent exam who want to maximize retention in that window. Also useful when you want to revise an entire Deck Pack in a short time.

When to change it: once the exam is over, switch back to Auto or Steady to avoid keeping up the intense pace unnecessarily.

Exam focus window

In Review Preferences there is a setting called Exam focus window (days). It defines how many days before an exam EON automatically enters intensive prep mode (when you're using Auto mode). Adjust this value to match how much preparation time you typically need.

Show all due — no recommendation, full backlog

EON shows all due cards as they become due, without filtering or redistribution. There is no ordering recommendation — you see the full backlog.

Who it's for: users who want to review independently without any automatic management, or who need to see the true state of all cards in the Deck Pack.

When to change it: if the list grows too large and becomes overwhelming, switching to Steady or Auto restores a manageable pace.

When you activate Show all due, there are no recommendations. You'll see all due cards as they become due.

Paused — silent, nothing scheduled

EON stops assigning cards to the study queue. The Deck Pack (or the whole account, if you pause at account level) goes quiet. Your calendar and events are preserved.

Who it's for: holidays, exam weeks in other subjects, or any moment when you need a complete break without losing your settings.

When to change it: when you resume studying. Your pending cards will still be there; the backlog may have grown, so it's worth checking the workload chart before jumping back in.

Pausing deletes nothing. Your decks, history, and due dates are kept intact.

Frequently asked questions

Can I have a different mode for each Deck Pack? Yes. Review Preferences let you set the mode at account level (applies to all packs) or override it for a specific Deck Pack.

What happens if I switch from Paused to Auto after several days? Cards that became due during the pause will appear as backlog. EON will spread them according to your daily limit and configured distribution strategy.

Does "Show all due" affect the algorithm? No. The algorithm keeps calculating intervals normally. Only which cards are shown in the session changes.
