Text cards

A text card has two sides: the Front (the question or prompt) and the Back (the answer or explanation). During review, EON shows the front first so you can try to recall the answer before revealing it.
Create a card
Open a deck and press New Card. A form opens with two fields:
- Front — write the question or the concept you want to memorize.
- Back — write the answer or explanation.
Press Create when you're done. The card is saved and synced automatically.
If AI is enabled and you fill in only one of the two fields, a Generate reverse with AI (or Generate front with AI) button appears to complete the other side automatically. Always review the result before saving.
Edit a card
Click any card in the deck to open it. Press Edit Card (or right-click and choose Edit Card from the context menu). Change the fields you need and press Save.
Content formatting
Both the front and back fields support markdown and math formulas. When a field contains renderable content, the editor switches to preview mode automatically. To edit again, double-click the field (the hint Double-click to edit appears). To return to preview while typing, press Esc.
Examples of supported formatting:
- Bold with
**text**, italic with*text*. - Lists, headings, and code blocks with standard markdown syntax.
- Inline formulas with
$...$, for example$E = mc^2$. - Block formulas with
$$...$$. - Chemistry notation with
\ce{...}.
Study notes
Each card can carry a personal note that only you see. The note does not appear during automatic review; it's a space for extra annotations, references, or context you want to keep nearby. To add or change a note, open the card and edit the Add notes for this card... field.
Frequently asked questions
Can I leave one of the two fields empty? No. EON requires both front and back to have content before saving the card.
Do math formulas render during review too? Yes. The same rendering engine works both in the editor and during a review session.
Does markdown affect how EON searches card content?
EON searches the plain text, so **bold** and "bold" return the same result.
Can I use markdown in the notes field? This is not confirmed in the current code. Use the notes field for plain text.
