Theca sources
Updated on August 5, 2026
When a card comes from a summary generated in Theca, EON remembers which part of the book it came from. During review you can jump directly to the original passage with one click, without searching manually.
How linked cards arrive
Cards with a Theca source are created from Theca, not from EON. The process is:
- Generate a summary with traceable citations in Theca.
- From the summary, press Generate study cards.
- The cards are pushed to the EON deck pack you choose. Each card is linked to the exact fragment of the book it came from.
See the full guide at Study cards to EON.
View the linked source on a card
When editing a card that has a Theca source, a Theca source badge appears at the bottom of the form, showing the name of the passage or fragment it is linked to. That badge is informational only; it does not affect the front or back content.
View the original source during review
When reviewing a linked card and viewing the answer, the View source button appears. Pressing it opens the corresponding Theca page in a new tab, at the exact point in the text that originated the card. Useful when the answer raises doubts and you want to read the full context.
Unlink the Theca source
If you want a card to stop being associated with Theca, open the card with Edit Card. Next to the Theca source badge there is a close button. Press Unlink source to remove the association. This does not delete the card or modify its content; it only removes the link to Theca.
Once unlinked, the View source button disappears during review. The action cannot be undone from the interface, but you can always regenerate the cards from Theca if needed.
Frequently asked questions
Can I manually link a card I created by hand to a Theca passage? No. The link is established automatically when cards are generated from Theca. There is no field to manually associate a card with Theca.
Is the Theca source exported if I download the .eon file? Yes. The link is included in the export file, but it only works if the person importing the file also has access to the same content in Theca.
Can I view the source during review in fullscreen mode? Yes. The View source button is available regardless of the display mode.
