Plans and limits in Theca
Updated on August 5, 2026
The plan you use in Theca is the same one shared across all Academic apps — EON, Imagine, SimulaLab, and the rest. Changing your plan in one app affects all of them.
Book storage
Every book you upload takes up a portion of your library storage. When you reach the limit, Theca tells you before the upload completes; you can cancel, delete books you no longer need, or upgrade your plan.
How much storage each book uses depends on its size and format.
AI usage
Some Theca features use AI: the AI overview in search, Summaries, and generating study cards for EON. These features consume AI tokens, which have two independent refresh windows: a short one (a few hours) and a weekly one. AI Mode requires a paid plan.
When you run out of tokens, Theca tells you and shows when the window refreshes. Tokens replenish automatically when each window expires; you don't need to do anything.
What happens when you hit the storage limit while uploading
If you try to upload a book and you have already reached your plan's storage limit, Theca shows a warning before the upload completes. The book is not saved until you free up space or move to a plan with more storage.
What happens if you downgrade your plan
If you switch to a plan with less storage than you are already using, the books in your library are not deleted automatically. However, you will not be able to upload new books until the storage in use drops below the limit of your new plan.
For full details and pricing for each plan, see the Academic plans and limits page.
Frequently asked questions
Is the Theca plan separate from the EON plan? No. It is the same plan across all Academic apps. Upgrading from any app applies the benefit everywhere.
How do I know how much storage I am using? In the Theca sidebar, go to Statistics, where you can see a breakdown of storage used by books, vectors, and covers.
Can I free up space by deleting books? Yes. Deleting a book releases the storage it was using.
