Getting started with Theca
Updated on August 5, 2026
Theca is your personal digital library. Upload books as PDF, EPUB, or TXT and search them by meaning, not just exact words. With AI Mode on, you can also generate summaries with traceable citations. This guide takes you from your first login to your first search.
1. Open the app
Go to theca.noxdragon.com and sign in with your NoxDragon account. If you don't have one yet, create it from that same screen.
2. The welcome tour
The first time you sign in, Theca shows you a short tour of the essentials. Use Next to advance, Back to go back, or Skip to exit. At the end, Get started closes the tour. The tour covers these topics in order:
- Welcome to Theca — your digital library for reading, studying, and searching your books.
- Add your books — upload PDF, EPUB, or TXT files to build your personal library.
- Read and highlight — open any book to read it, highlight passages, and pick up right where you left off.
- Search everything — find any passage across your whole library with instant search.
- AI summaries — turn your books into cited summaries and flashcards with AI Mode.
You can return to the documentation at any time using the help button.
3. Upload your first book
In the Library, click Upload in the toolbar. The Upload Books modal opens: drag your file into the drop zone or click to browse your computer. PDF, EPUB, and TXT files are supported; you can select multiple at once.
Once selected, click Upload. Theca processes each book and indexes it for search. The book status moves through Queued → Processing → Processed. When it shows Processed, it is ready to search.
If your PDF is a scan with no selectable text (for example, a photocopy), Theca shows it as Scanned, no text. You can still read and download it, but search and AI Mode will not be available for that book.
4. Run your first search
Click Search in the left sidebar. Type your question or term in the Search your library... field and press Enter. Theca returns the most relevant passages from across your library, with a page preview showing exactly where they appear. Click Open here to jump directly to that spot in the reader.
